What is a volume booster?

A volume booster raises the level of a quiet recording so it plays louder. This one has two modes. Boost adds a fixed gain from 0 to 18 dB, and Normalize scales the loudest peak to a target level, which is 0.95 of full scale by default. If the boost would pass full scale, the whole file is turned down so the peaks stay clean. It runs in your browser with the Web Audio API, so the file is not uploaded. You can preview the result before you download it, then save a 16-bit WAV or an MP3. A boost can only raise what is already recorded. It cannot repair distortion, and it also raises background noise, so clean steady hiss first with the Noise Reduction tool if the recording is noisy. It is free, with no account and no watermark.

How to use it

  1. Choose a mode Boost when you know the decibels. Normalize when you want the peak set for you.
  2. Preview Play the result before you download.
  3. Save Choose WAV for a full-quality file, or MP3 when you need a smaller one. Nothing is uploaded.

Why it does not just multiply

A plain gain can push samples past full scale and crack. If the boost would pass full scale, the whole file is turned down so the peaks stay clean.

FAQ

Will this fix a recording that is already distorted?

No. A volume booster can only raise what is already in the file. If the recording was clipped or distorted when it was captured, boosting it makes the distortion louder, not cleaner. If the boost would pass full scale, the whole file is turned down so the boost itself does not flatten the peaks. For a quiet recording with steady hiss, run Noise Reduction first and then raise the level.

What is a safe boost?

Start around +6 dB, which is the default, and listen to the preview. The gain stays exact while the file still has room. If it would pass full scale, the whole file is turned down. Normalize sets the loudest peak to 0.95 of full scale. The boost slider runs from 0 to 18 dB, and the top of that range helps only very quiet files.

Is it free?

Yes. The volume booster is free, needs no account and adds no watermark. Processing happens in your browser with the Web Audio API, so the file is not uploaded. You can preview the result before saving it as a 16-bit WAV or an MP3. You must own the rights to the audio you process.
